Stay Strong, Stay Healthy |
Health and Wellness |
Event Description: |
University of Missouri Extension has partnered with St. Charles Community College to offer Stay Strong, Stay Healthy. It is an eight-week evidence-based strength-training program designed for older adults who want to improve their quality of life and stay active. The exercises are easy to learn, safe and effective. No need to wear special clothes—just comfortable, loose-fitting pants and shirt, along with sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes.
The benefits of strength training include: increases muscle strength, improves balance, enhances flexibility, strengthens bones, relieves arthritis, helps control weight, lifts depression, reduces stress, reduces risks for heart disease.
Over the course of the program, participants will increase strength and improve their balance. Weights will be available on-site, and Emily Barbee, MU Extension Nutrition and Health Education Specialist, will help participants learn and do these exercises safely.
The program runs Mondays and Wednesdays, October 7 through December 2 (no class November 27), 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Community College, 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, Cottleville, 63376. The cost is $69 and registration is required—call Wendy or Marybeth at 636-922-8233 or visit www.stchas.edu/learnforlife.
